In a day and age when unicorns and mermaids moonlight as style icons, influencing everything from hair colors and beauty product scents to even coffee flavors, we remember a brand that has epitomized the feel-good feminine aesthetic since the ’90s — Lisa Frank.
For those who grew up in the ’90s (or those who raised young girls during that era), Lisa Frank is the cult-favorite brand that topped all elementary-aged girls’ school supply lists. Multicolored leopard-print pens, pencils, and folders were must-haves and graphic tees with ponies, puppies, and rainbows became the unofficial uniform of the decade. For those from metro Detroit, the influential brand hits even closer to home — founder of the namesake label, Lisa Frank, spent her own school days at Cranbrook Schools in Bloomfield Hills.
This back-to-school season, the Bloomfield Hills native has teamed up with another ’90s classic, Reebok, to design two pairs of vibrant sneakers inspired by the same designs that graced bookbags and soft-cover binders 25 years ago. “Nineties kids have such fond memories of their childhood and want to share their joy and excitement with their friends, families and coworkers,” Frank says in a Reebok blog post. Each pair of Reebok Classic Leathers are adorned with a collage of whimsical animal, heart, and floral graphics, laced with rainbow-colored shoestrings, and finished with the designer’s signature in metallic marker. “Rainbow colors and fantasy characters never go out of style.”
The Reebok x Lisa Frank collection is only available in limited quantities. In fact, just two lucky winners will get their hands on the artful designs. To enter for a chance to win a pair, tweet a favorite trend from your back-to-school days to @ReebokClassics and @LisaFrank. Best of luck!
