In an effort to spread awareness of Parkinson’s Disease, the Kirk Gibson Foundation for Parkinson’s and the Michigan clothing brand Born In Detroit, LLC, have teamed up on a limited-edition line of apparel.
The line, Team 23, is exclusively available on the foundation’s website and features a wide variety of items including a tote, beanie, and both knit and snapback hats, along with clothing for men and women.
A portion of the proceeds from these sale of the items in the line will benefit the foundation and their important work spreading awareness of and funding research for Parkinson’s Disease.
“The foundation is always asked if there are clothing options available and now for the first time with this limited-edition Kirk Gibson Foundation for Parkinson’s Team23 collection, people will be able to showcase their pride in the foundation, all while helping support the Parkinson’s Community and Team23,” Michelle Newman, COO for The Kirk Gibson Foundation for Parkinson’s said in a press release about the line.
According to the foundation, Parkinson’s Disease is a progressive nervous system disorder that causes tremors along with stiff or rigid muscles, slowing of movement, and soft or slurred speech. It may also cause anxiety, depression, sleep disorders, constipation, and fatigue.
The Kirk Gibson Foundation for Parkinson’s was originally founded in 1996 to provide scholarships to students at Waterford Kettering and Clarkston High Schools. It is named after Kirk Gibson, a former outfielder for the Detroit Tigers who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2015, and works to “improve the quality of life of those living with Parkinson’s through the development and delivery of activity-based programs.”
