Detroit is a city of makers and doers. It’s a place where the resilience of small business owners help shape and strengthen the backbone of the community — from wellness and art to food and everything in between. GoDaddy was inspired by the rebirth of Detroit, and the entrepreneurs driving the evolution, so it created Icons of Detroit – a 10-part series, hosted by local entrepreneur Nneka Julia, that highlights the small businesses helping to power the city.
“We were inspired to focus the series on Detroit, an important symbol of strength and resilience,” said Adam Palmer, Director of Creative Production Operations at GoDaddy. “Icons of Detroit introduce a new wave of community-focused entrepreneurs who are embracing their role, not only as small business owners but also as driving forces in their city – lifting up Detroit socially and economically.”
A few icons featured in the series include the founders of Detroit Hives who turned a passion project into a thriving business that strengthens an entire community, Kerrie Trahan from Yoganic Flow who cultivates mind and body wellness through yoga in inner-city Detroit, and Lori Lady L of Lady L Tattoos who shines a light on the hustle it takes to be a female tattoo artist.
“Because small businesses are created by those and for those within the community, entrepreneurship is key to fostering growth for any city and neighborhood to thrive,” added Icons of Detroit host and local entrepreneur Nneka Julia.
