The Art of the Reception

Why Live Painting Is Taking Over Weddings

What was once considered a niche wedding detail has quickly become one of the most sought-after luxury experiences in modern weddings: live wedding painting. And in Detroit, one artist has become synonymous with the trend, Presley Bergmooser of PRESLEYMADEIT.

Known online as “the woman who paints on her dress,” Presley has built a viral following by transforming wedding receptions into live art performances. Her work has been featured twice by PEOPLE Magazine, where she was described as an “adrenaline junkie” for completing paintings live under pressure while guests watch throughout the night.

Unlike traditional commissioned artwork, live wedding painting unfolds in real time during the reception. Starting with a blank canvas, she captures the ceremony and builds the painting throughout the evening while interacting with guests. The result becomes both entertainment and heirloom, a one-of-one piece created during the couple’s
    actual wedding day.

For modern couples, especially younger brides looking for more personalized experiences, the appeal goes far beyond décor. Live painting creates a focal point during the reception, naturally drawing guests in throughout the night. Phones come out, crowds gather, and the painting itself becomes part of the event. “People talked most about the painting she did and how cool it was to watch,” one bride shared on Bergmooser’s website.

That emotional connection is a major reason the industry has exploded on social media. Videos of guests reacting to live paintings regularly reach millions of views online, helping turn live wedding art into one of the fastest-growing luxury wedding trends in the country. Bergmooser herself has become one of the most recognizable faces of the movement, combining fine art with performance in a way that feels distinctly modern.

Detroit’s creative culture has also played a role in the rise. Couples increasingly want weddings that feel artistic, immersive, and deeply personal, less of the traditional formula, more of the curated experience. At the end of the night, after the flowers wilt and the music fades, couples leave with something tangible: a hand-painted memory created live in front of the people they love most.

In a digital world, that permanence feels more valuable than ever.
