Pine Hall, Union Square Hospitality Group’s (USHG) debut project at Hudson’s Detroit, will be opening its doors in Spring 2026. The cocktail bar takes its name from The Pine Room, an iconic restaurant located in the original J.L Hudson’s building.

The bar will be situated on the 12th floor of the development’s mid-rise building. It will offer panoramic views of downtown Detroit. The addition of this 300-seat bar will look to provide out of town visitors and native Detroiters a place to enjoy a drink.

“Pine Hall is a neighborhood bar worthy of becoming a destination,” says USHG Founder and Executive Chairman Danny Meyer in a press release. “Our hope is that Detroiters make it part of their regular rotation – a locals joint that brings people together and fits whatever the moment calls for.”

What to Expect from Pine Hall

The beverage program will look to highlight local Michigan liquors and ingredients. Additionally, it will feature local beers, wines, and non-alcoholic drinks. The craft cocktail menu takes inspiration from classics, like the Final Countdown, a modern rendition of The Last Word. Others, like the Lemon-Lime Spritz, will be made with a sparkling Michigan Reisling. The Pine Hall Sour will also contain of all regional ingredients. The food menu will consist of tavern style dishes and shareable plates as well as larger entrées.

The bar will feature both indoor and outdoor seating, with floor-to-ceiling glass paneling. A 3,300 square-foot deck to provide unobstructed views of the city. Inside, the bar pays tribute to its namesake’s interior with wood paneling and a cozy atmosphere.

USHG’s Plans for Hudson’s Detroit

Pine Hall is the first of multiple USHG projects slated for the multi-building Hudson’s Detroit. Across Nick Gilbert Way, which separates the two buildings, plans for a first-floor restaurant are also underway from Meyer’s group.

USHG was founded by Meyer in 1985 with the opening of his first restaurant, Union Square Café, in New York City. Since then, the group has opened multiple restaurants in New York and Tokyo. The group’s current venture in Detroit is its first foray into the Midwest.

When Meyer first announced his plans of opening establishment’s in Detroit in October 2025, he said in a statement, “Detroit is brimming with culture, creativity, and pride. Expanding here – and joining such a dynamic neighborhood – gives us the opportunity to grow and innovate alongside a city that’s constantly in motion. As a proud native Midwesterner, I couldn’t be more excited to plant our flag in Detroit.”
