Union Square Hospitality Group (USHG) announced on Oct. 30 they will be making their Detroit debut at Hudson’s Detroit. The New York-based restaurant group will oversee dining options in both the skyscraper hotel and residences and the adjacent mixed-use development.

A First for the Midwest

USHG was founded by Danny Meyer in 1985 with the opening of his first restaurant, Union Square Café. The group now operates some of New York’s most renowned restaurants, including Michelin starred eateries Gramercy Tavern and The Modern. The group also founded Shake Shack in 2004, before it became a publicly traded company. With restaurants in New York and Tokyo, Detroit will be the group’s first foray into the Midwest.

“Detroit is brimming with culture, creativity, and pride,” says Meyer, who also serves as USHG’s Executive Chairman. “Expanding here – and joining such a dynamic neighborhood – gives us the opportunity to grow and innovate alongside a city that’s constantly in motion. As a proud native Midwesterner, I couldn’t be more excited to plant our flag in Detroit.”

The Future of Dining at Hudson’s

While exact details surrounding USHG’s plans for Hudson’s Detroit are unknown, this marks a tremendous milestone for the development. And with the recent completion of Hudson’s 12-story mixed-use space, the development is ready for this next step.

The midrise will have a rooftop bar and restaurant, with retail, event, and office space occupying the remaining floors. The Detroit EDITION hotel and The Residences at The Detroit EDITION are slated to open in 2027 and will have additional dining options located on the first floor.

Separating the two buildings is Nick Gilbert Way, which will serve as an activation site and thoroughfare connecting Farmer St. and Woodward Ave. Un Deux Trois, a French-inspired coffee truck created by midtown’s Café Sous Terre will be a permanent fixture here. USHG’s foray into Detroit is an important marker of the city’s success as a dining destination.

“Detroit has the best restaurants and chefs in the country, and the arrival of Union Square Hospitality Group signals that the world has taken notice,” said Andrew Leber, Senior Vice President of Hospitality at Bedrock. “Hudson’s Detroit is creating new and unforgettable experiences for everyone, further solidifying the city as a must-see destination.”
