Michigan Schools Among Nation’s Worst for Chronic Absenteeism
A new study by Stanford University education Professor Thomas Dee and the Associated Press, which looked at 40 states and the District of Columbia, found that Michigan ranks fourth for chronic absenteeism. For the 2018-19 school year, chronic absenteeism in the state was around 20%. The next school year it was at 39%.
Detroit Tigers’ Broadcaster Jim Price Has Died
The Detroit Tigers announced on Twitter that Jim Price, the team’s longtime television and radio broadcaster, died on Aug. 7 at the age of 81. No cause of death was given, but he had been dealing with health issues over the last couple of years.
Michigan Residents Should Look for Signs of Asian Longhorned Beetles
State environmental officials are urging residents to look for the invasive species in their adult trees. The beetles attack 12 types of hardwood tree and have no known predators or diseases that would keep the population down.
