As one of many people who is constantly tethered to their phone, I’ve tried to make an effort to “unplug” and take a break from my many apps and just be present, even if only for a couple of hours. That’s what I found myself doing on a toasty July afternoon with one of my Hour Detroit co-workers when we visited the Terrazzo, San Morello’s new outdoor seasonal lounge on the corner of Woodward and Grand River just outside its main entrance.
The airy outdoor setting gives you a front row seat to the goings-on of downtown Detroit, from cars making their way through the city to folks making their way to one of the many retailers on and around Woodward. The surrounding energy is very kinetic, but the warm, inviting seating on the Terrazzo helps ground you, allowing for focus on conversation.
San Morello’s New Piccolini Menu
Complimenting the Terrazzo is San Morello’s new Piccolini menu, which is Italian for “small” or “little.” The menu is available daily from 3-5 p.m. It features five different snack items for $8 each: marinated olives; truffle arancini; mixed spiced nuts; gabagool and grana; and, my personal favorite, sheep’s milk ricotta, which is served with a hearty bread.

Joining the food on the Piccolini menu is a very on-trend selection of spritz cocktails for $16 each: the Limoncello Spritz; the very popular elderflower liqueur-based Hugo Spritz; and the gin-based Tricolore Spritz. For those who don’t drink alcohol, the Cucumber Thyme Spirit Free mocktail is also on the menu for $12.
The lightness of the menu and the overall setting of the Terrazzo lends itself to the perfect break, whether it’s from work or life. After all, few joys are more satisfying than engaging in some girl talk, cocktails, and snacks on a gorgeous day.
In addition to the Piccolini menu available daily from 3-5 p.m., San Morello’s Terrazzo also features a limited dinner selection. Terrazzo dinner hours are Monday-Thursday 5-10 p.m., Friday-Saturday 5-11 p.m., and Sunday 5-9:30 p.m. For complete restaurant details, including reservations, visit sanmorello.com.
