DETROIT FISH HOUSE /// The location may be suburban, but this new restaurant feels like a true coastal eatery, serving an extensive menu of fresh fish and seafood in a well-designed setting. The kitchen is in the hands of an experienced chef who has worked at both the Chuck Muer and Joe Muer restaurants. Choose from a selection of fresh oysters on the half shell, and a wide variety of fish and seafood, ranging from salmon with a ginger glaze to Lake Superior whitefish. 51195 Schoenherr Rd., Shelby Charter Township; 586-739-5400; L & D Mon.-Sat., D only Sun. $19

SECOND BEST /// The talents behind nearby Grey Ghost have unveiled a second, more casual spot with a retro spin in Detroit’s Cass Corridor. The menu includes such dishes as deviled eggs, ramen noodle salad, and fried chicken sandwiches that accompany drinks that were popular more than a few years back, all in a cozy brick and wood setting lit by Tiffany-style lamps. It’s a cleaned-up version of the neighborhood bar, and so deliberately unpretentious yet trendy at the same time. 42 Watson St., Detroit; 313-315-3070. D nightly. $10
