Woman Endures Three Tissue Graft Failures Before Visiting Our Office

A young patient arrived at our office seeking help for gum recession, rightfully frustrated by her long journey of attempting to correct the issue. In Figure 1, her recession is visible in both the upper and lower arch.

Figure 1: Gum recession is a common issue in which the tissue surrounding the teeth pulls back, exposing the tooth root. If left untreated, the supporting tissue and bone structures of the teeth can be severely damaged and may ultimately result in tooth loss.

Before coming to our office, our patient had not one, not two, but three traditional grafting procedures done in order to fix her gum recession. Every single treatment failed, bringing her back to square one.

Traditional grafting procedures are often extremely painful as they cut tissue from the roof of the patient’s mouth and stitch it to the receding gingival tissue.

Rather than traditional grafting, the Pinhole Technique is our preferred method at Nemeth & Katranji Periodontics for treating gum recession. It is a revolutionary, minimally invasive procedure in which we carefully guide the patient’s existing gum tissue back over the tooth root. The Pinhole Technique is far less painful as it eliminates the need for a donor site.

Our patient, exhausted by her constant failed tissue grafts, underwent the pinhole surgery with beautiful results.

“Overall, my gums are much healthier. There is no thinning going on, whereas previously, my gums would thin after a grafting procedure, and it would inevitably fail. I’m also really happy with the follow-up care at Nemeth & Katranji Periodontics. At other offices and practices, I only had one follow-up, but Dr. Nemeth followed up with me a bunch to make sure my gums were healing well, and I was recovering smoothly.”

We are extremely gratified that we were able to restore our patient’s teeth and gums with thicker and healthier tissue, stopping recession in its tracks.

Below are other recent before and after pinhole treatment cases. If you or a loved one are experiencing gum recession, feel free to give us a call at 248.357.3100 or visit drnemeth.com to see what we can do for you.
