Wayne County Parks is kicking off the 2023 holiday season with three days of events that culminate in the start of the 30th annual Wayne County Lightfest on Nov. 16, 2023.

These events kick off at 7 p.m. on Nov. 14 with the Bike Through The Lights lights. Participants of this event are among the first to see this year’s light displays as they bike to Merriman Hollow Park and back.

Registration for Bike Through The Lights runs $30-$35 for adults and $20-$25 for kids. Online registration ends on Nov. 10, but in-person registration runs through Nov. 14. Participants will receive a Lightfest long-sleeve shirt, a bike light and post-event snacks.

Those who prefer running to biking can sign up for the 8K Fun Run/Walk, which happens on 7 p.m. on Nov. 15. The run starts at Merriman Hollow Park in Westland and finishes at Warrendale Park in Dearborn Heights.

The Lightfest Run/Walk costs $35-$40 for adults and $25-$30 for kids on race day. Online registration ends on Nov. 10. In-person registration is Nov. 13 and 15. Participants of this event receive a Lightfest long-sleeve shirt, finishers medal, post-event snacks, and a ride back to your car.

Wayne County Lightfest officially opens with the “Lights On” ceremony at 6 p.m. on Nov. 16. This free event will feature refreshments, musical entertainment, fireworks, and a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus, all leading up to the tradition “flip of the switch.”

This year’s drive-thru event will feature five miles of breathtaking displays filled with hundreds of thousands of multi-colored lights, including 50 animated displays.

It also offers a special Toy Nights where visitors can donate a new, unwrapped toy instead of paying admission. Those nights are Nov. 22, Nov. 29, Dec. 6, and Dec. 13.

Wanye County Lightfest is open 6-10 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays, Nov. 16-Dec. 24, 2023. The entrance is located on Merriman Road, between Ann Arbor Trail and Warren Ave., with displays along Hines Drive from Ann Arbor Trail to Outer Drive. Admission for regular size cars is $5 (cash only).
