Wayne County Parks is kicking off the 2022 holiday season with three days of events that culminate in the start of the 29th annual Wayne County Lightfest on Nov. 17, 2022.

These events kick off at 7 p.m. on Nov. 15 with the Bike Through The Lights light parade. Participants of this event are among the first to see this year’s light displays as they bike to the Warrendale Picnic Area and back.

Those who prefer running to biking can sign up for the 8K Fun Run/Walk, which happens on 7 p.m. on Nov. 16. The run starts at Merriman Hollow Park in Westland and finishes at Warrendale Park in Dearborn Heights.

Registration for both Bike Through The Lights and the 8K Fun Run/Walk start at $30-$35 for adults and $20-$25 for kids and is required by Nov. 11. Participants of both events will receive a Lightfest hat, medal, post event snacks and more.

Wayne County Lightfest officially opens with the “Lights On” ceremony at 6 p.m. on Nov. 17. This free event will feature refreshments, musical entertainment, and fireworks, all leading up to the tradition “flip of the switch.”

This year’s drive-thru event will feature five miles of breathtaking displays filled with hundreds of thousands of multi-colored lights, including 50 animated displays.

It also offers kids the chance to drop off their letters to Santa in the giant mailbox at Perrin Park, which is about halfway through the display, and special Toy Nights where visitors can donate a new, unwrapped toy instead of paying admission. Those nights are Nov. 23, Nov. 30, and Dec. 7.

“Wayne County is excited to present this year’s Lightfest. Each year, this event serves as a bright adventure for families and this season will be no different,” Wayne County Executive Warren C. Evans said in a press release. “I encourage everyone to come out and drive the illuminated stretch of Hines Park and create memories with your loved ones.”

Wanye County Lightfest is open 6-10 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays, Nov. 17-Dec. 24, 2022, along Hines Drive from Ann Arbor Trail to Outer Drive. Admission for regular size cars is $5 (cash only).
