TidalWave Comics, an independent comic and graphic novel publisher based in Portland, Oregon, has added a comic book about popular singer-songwriter, Lizzo, to its Female Force series. Written by Darren G. Davis with art by Pablo Martinena, Female Force: Lizzo depicts Lizzo’s story and was released the week of April 24, 2023, in honor of her 35th birthday.

Featuring prominent authors, business executives, entertainers, journalists, politicians, and activists, the Female Force series highlights the triumphs of women and aims to inspire readers. The collection of biographies has amassed media attention and features on The Today Show, CNN, MSNBC, TIME, and People magazines.

“I am super excited to bring Lizzo into the Female Force world. Since her breakout, she has been all about female empowerment and destroying glass ceilings,” Davis said in a press release.

Originally from Detroit, Melissa Viviane Jefferson became the iconic American rapper, singer, and flutist Lizzo in early 2010s. Lizzo began rapping at the age of ten and, by 14, had formed her first musical group. With music exploring empowerment, confidence, self-love, and acceptance, she tops charts globally and serves as a powerful voice for this generation, according to a press release about the comic.

As Lizzo’s outreach spans the globe, it should come as no shock that the creative process was illuminating. Martinena says he would listen to Lizzo’s music while drawing the pages of the comic; an opportunity he says was “an incredible experience.”

TidalWave Productions has also announced the planned release of a biography comic book titled FAME: Harry Styles, in which the friendship between the two artists is covered as well.

This 22-page comic book is available digitally and in print. It is available in both softcover and hardcover and can be found on multiple platforms including Amazon. The hardcover version will feature a different cover by Marvel Comics artist Yonami.

Other women featured in the series include Dolly Parton, Betty White, Tina Turner, Gloria Steinem, Cher, Oprah Winfrey, and others.
