Cute treats, colorful apparel, and limited-edition collectibles are heading to metro Detroit. On Sept. 26, the Hello Kitty Cafe and Barbie Pop-Up trucks — mobile shops that carry a lineup of branded merchandise — will make an appearance at Twelve Oaks Mall in Novi.

The Hello Kitty truck will be stocked with its best-selling items, such as stainless-steel thermal bottles, giant cookies, and lunchboxes, as well as new products like the Hello Kitty Cafe Canvas Totes, Enamel Pin Sets, Hand-Decorated Cookie Sets, Sprinkle Mugs, and Madeleine Cookie Sets. The truck has been popping up across the U.S. since 2014; it last visited metro Detroit in April 2018.

The Barbie truck, which has been traveling across the country since last fall as part of the Barbie Truck Totally Throwback Tour, will offer a lineup of ’90s-themed apparel and accessories. For-sale items include a collectible Polaroid camera, custom airbrushed jackets, logo necklaces, cassette tape wallets, cosmetic bags, and embroidered patch sets.

Open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., both trucks will only accept credit and debit card payments.

The Hello Kitty Cafe and Barbie Pop-Up trucks are also following safety protocols and increased sanitization procedures to keep customers safe. Staff will be wearing masks, and social distancing markers will be placed around the trucks. Counters and payment readers will be disinfected every 30 minutes, and hand sanitizer will also be provided.

Guests are also encouraged to stay home if they’re sick, wear a face mask, maintain distance from other customers and staff, and sanitize their hands.
