You might say activated charcoal is the old black. Studies have shown it can be effective in lowering cholesterol, relieving bloating and gas, alleviating morning sickness, and more. (Hour Detroit subscribers can read all about it in the annual Health Guide mailed with their April issues.) While you should always consult with your doctor before adding anything new to your diet, taste-test it yourself at Ferndale’s GreenSpace Café, a restaurant founded by plant-based cardiologist Dr. Joel Kahn.

Ingredients
1 ½ ounces charcoal-infused tequila*
1 ½ ounces St-Germain
¾ ounce lime juice
2 dashes orange bitters
3 sprays Scotch (from a cocktail atomizer)

Directions
Place everything except Scotch into a shaker filled with ice. Strain into an ice-filled rocks glass. Spritz the Scotch.

*2 tablespoons activated charcoal powder per full bottle of tequila.
