Cocktail Recipe: Man on the Moon

Refreshing, a bit savory, and certainly unique, the Man on the Moon from Grey Ghost is only eclipsed by its whimsical name. “The name of the drink came from the color of the finished product. The pale yellowish color reminded me of the color of the moon as I imagined it as a kid,” says Will Lee, beverage director at Grey Ghost. “If you had enough of these, you could also be the man (or woman) on the moon.”

1 ½ ounces Lot No. 40 Rye Whisky
1/3 ounce Yellow Chartreuse
1 ounce pineapple juice
¾ ounces toasted sesame syrup*
¾ ounces lemon juice
dehydrated lemon slice

*Ingredients for Toasted Sesame Syrup:
1 cup toasted sesame seeds
3 cups water
3 cups sugar

For the syrup, combine water and sesame seeds in pot. Let soak for two hours, then put sugar and the seed/water mix into blender. Blend and strain through a chinois. Combine all ingredients in shaker tin and shake vigorously. Strain into rocks glass with ice. Garnish with dehydrated lemon slice.
