Mind Body & Spirits: An on-site greenhouse is one of the many nods to environmentally sound practices at this downtown Rochester spot. Tabletops are recycled. Solar panels supplement power. And the menu includes burgers made with free-range, grass-fed organic beef, along with such dishes as pecan chicken, cedar-plank roasted Arctic char, and Asian cold-noodle salad. 301 S. Main St., Rochester; 248-651-3663. L & D daily. $18 H Smoke-free

The Fly Trap: A finer diner, in the words of the proprietors — and they’re right. This colorful place typifies funky Ferndale with its tin ceiling, red-topped tables, and counter with swivel stools. Its updated menu offers sandwiches, salads, pastas, and omelets, which are served all day, along with old-fashioned milk shakes and root-beer floats. They call it “blunch.” 22950 Woodward, Ferndale; 248-399-5150. Daily except Mon. $10 Smoke-free
