CAFE ML
The initials refer to the intersection of Maple and Lahser but also to proprietor Bill Roberts’ wife, Maria, and his mother, Lillian. It’s the fifth location for the restaurateur, who began 25 years ago with the still-thriving Beverly Hills Grill. ML is contemporary, both in décor and menu. “Globally inspired food” is how chef de cuisine Shawn Wright describes it. Such dishes as ceviche, Chinese chicken salad, jerk shrimp, and Korean fried chicken share the a la carte menu with burgers, steak frites, and — on the chalkboard — fresh seafood selections. Garage door–style windows open onto the covered (and heated) patio. Service is friendly and efficient. 3607 W. Maple Road at Lahser, Bloomfield Twp. 248-642-4000. L & D daily. $20 H

EDDIE MERLOT’S
Location, location, location. Perched as it is on the corner of Woodward and Big Beaver, Eddie Merlot’s has certainly got it. Featuring prime steaks and an extensive wine list (but with a wider menu than a traditional steakhouse), Eddie Merlot’s offers a range of seating, from the lounge at the entrance, where the granite-topped bar is augmented by a number of cocktail tables, to the main dining room, colorfully done up with contemporary art glass and painting. Regular restaurant-goers will recognize many familiar faces among the well-dressed and well-trained waitstaff. 37000 Woodward, Bloomfield Hills; 248-712-4095. D nightly. $38 H
