Within a 15-hour span while traveling from Detroit Metro Airport to Beaches Turks & Caicos, I confronted some intense weather whiplash. When my husband and I left home, it was a chilly 48 degrees. Upon landing, we stepped off the plane into a steamy 82 degrees. It was the first of many dizzying delights during our stay at the resort, including an unexpected rescue that allowed us to stay in literal paradise for an extra night.
Welcome to Treasure Beach Village … and Hollywood?
We visited Beaches Turks & Caicos for a four-day, three-night celebration of the opening of Treasure Beach Village, the resort’s sixth village on the gorgeous Grace Bay Beach property. A $150 million investment, Treasure Beach Village boasts spacious villas and suites, a movie theater, a 15,000-square-foot pool, and a host of other features and attractions.
On the first night, the resort hosted a golden-hour beach party just a short walk from our room, a newly renovated concierge suite in the Seaside Village, located next to Treasure Beach Village. The attentive staff greeted us on the beach with crisp, fresh coconut water in Beaches-branded coconuts. It was so delicious, it has basically ruined all other coconut water for me forever.
As we made our way across the sand a bit closer to the ocean, a familiar man caught my eye. I leaned over to my husband and said, “Be stealthy, but look to your right. I’m almost certain that dude in all white is Chad Michael Murray.”
After making a face that said, “Oh, c’mon now,” the love of my life glanced to his right, looked back at me, and said, “Yep, that’s definitely him. That’s Tristan from Gilmore Girls.”
Shortly after retrieving a cocktail from the beach bar, securing a high-top table, and accepting various canapés from servers, I spotted another familiar man. This time, it was Nico Tortorella, best known for playing Josh on the TV Land series Younger. Suddenly, we caught on that the celebration wasn’t just for members of the media. In fact, Beaches later confirmed that an impressive slate of actors and other celebrities attended, including Taye Diggs, Dorinda Medley, Ross Mathews, and Jesse Eisenberg.
Dining at Beaches Turks & Caicos
Following the beach party, we made our way to Le Petit Chateau, a classic French restaurant appropriately located in the resort’s French Village. Our romantic meal included coquilles Saint Jacques, escalope cordon bleu, tournedo Rossini à la Bordelaise, and rich crème brûlée.
Le Petit Chateau is one of 23 restaurants at Beaches Turks & Caicos. Whatever you’re craving at any given moment, Beaches has you covered. Hungry for some fresh seafood? Dine at Schooners Seafood Grill and try the signature grilled swordfish steak. Want a hearty sandwich and a pint? Head over to Cricketer’s Pub and order the braised beef short rib grilled cheese.
Unsure of what you want? Five restaurants in the resort serve buffets that include Southwestern fare, Italian, Caribbean, Asian, and every cuisine in between. Even the pickiest eater can find something to enjoy.
Guests with specific dietary requirements or food allergies can coordinate special preparations with the resort one month prior to their stay.
Activities, Adventures, and Relaxation for Everyone
If you thought the dining choices were diverse, the activity options somehow top that. Beaches Turks & Caicos features pools in every village area, a 45,000-square-foot waterpark, and, of course, the stunning white sand and turquoise waters of Grace Bay Beach.
Land sport options abound, too. As part of the Treasure Beach Village opening celebration, we participated in a morning pickleball clinic led by professional pickleball player Megan Fudge. Coincidentally, Fudge joined us later that afternoon to learn to play mahjong from Kari Long of Mahj on the Beach.
While the resort experience includes plenty of activities, guests have the option to check out other adventures for an additional cost. We were able to try the family catamaran and snorkeling cruise, which took us to see coral reefs and a secluded cay inhabited by iguanas.
An Unexpected Extra Day at Beaches Turks & Caicos
Our stay at Beaches Turks & Caicos was supposed to conclude on a Sunday. Upon leaving the resort in the early afternoon for our flight, things took a turn. The plane that was going to take us back to the United States was experiencing mechanical issues, and our flight was canceled and rescheduled for Monday. (I’m fairly certain Chad Michael Murray and his family were on our flight, too. I saw him trying to covertly maneuver his luggage away amid the chaotic scene of now-stranded people.)
As my husband and I waited in line to find lodging, I heard my name announced over the intercom at the Providenciales International Airport. Then, I heard an airport worker yell my name. Apparently, upon hearing about our canceled flight, Beaches Turks & Caicos requested that we return. The resort put us in a Treasure Beach concierge suite with a stunning pool view.
Once we resettled into our new room after the stressful airport experience, we were taken by the incredible view. My husband joked, “This doesn’t even seem real; it looks like a screensaver!”
Until this trip, our vacations have always been urban affairs full of sightseeing, shopping, and very little relaxing. We’ve never seen ourselves as “resort people.” One visit to Beaches Turks & Caicos, with its remarkable accommodations and world-class staff, has made us rethink how we’ll vacation in the future, and it already has us figuring out when we can return.
