“It’s one of the finest primary suites we’ve ever designed,” says Arturo Sanchez of Royal Oak-based Art | Harrison Interiors. He’s referring to a space in an Oakland Township new-build home that he and his business partner, Barry Harrison, designed for a newlywed couple and their blended family.
Throughout the five-bedroom home, stunning interiors reflect a quiet luxury rooted in simplicity, craftsmanship, and elegance.
“The wife wanted parts of the home to feel like Armani and Dior,” Sanchez says. He describes her as polished, stylish, and classic — qualities the design team brought to life throughout the home.
The icing on this interior-design cake is Harrison’s talent for crafting custom-made furniture and art. The designer’s remarkable handiwork shines through a settee in the primary suite, a circular sofa and sculptural installation in the living room, and chic prints in the foyer.
The couple couldn’t be happier with the finished product. “When I look around our home today, I don’t simply see beautiful furniture or finishes,” the wife says. “I see hundreds of conversations, countless shared ideas, and an extraordinary collaboration between our vision and Art and Barry’s talent. They didn’t simply design a beautiful home; they helped us create one that feels unmistakably like us.”
Here’s an insider’s look at the luxe space, from the palette and artwork to the mood.
Best dressed
The homeowners wanted the primary suite to feel “very Armani,” Sanchez says. In response, the designer duo whipped up a classic confection of soft bronzes and golds. Art | Harrison Interiors custom-made the bed, settee, and nightstands with bronze mirrored tops. Beautiful accessories include sconces from London and a chandelier from Florence, Italy, that Sanchez spotted while traveling. The bathroom’s custom accent wall features Sicis tiles, each echoing the home’s palette.
“The suite is incredibly special because it represents exactly what we hoped this home would become,” says the wife. “It’s elegant without feeling formal, luxurious without feeling overwhelming, and above all, peaceful. At the end of a busy day, it feels like an exhale.”
Living large
“The living room immediately says, ‘This living room is for entertaining!’” Sanchez says. “[The wife] told us she wanted it to exude ‘Dior.’ So we created that color palette and developed it for the entire house.”
He and Harrison chose bronze, gold, black, and white to mingle with unique furnishings, like the head-turning circular sectional (designed and built by Art | Harrison Interiors) and the huge sculptural chain element (created by Harrison) hanging by the back window.
“The clients pushed the boundaries of color,” Sanchez says. “They wanted cozy but elegant, and we achieved that.”
Making an entrance
“The foyer makes a bold architectural statement, but what I love is that as you move through the house, the spaces become progressively softer,” the wife says. “The living room introduces curves, texture, and sculptural forms that invite conversation rather than simply admiration. By the time you reach the primary suite, the mood changes completely.”
