Foodies in Clarkston will soon have new eateries to try as the owners of Rudy’s Market, a staple in the community since 1933, have announced plans to open a series of new dining experiences in the downtown area.

The first in the series is a new steakhouse called Rudy’s Prime Steakhouse, which will open in the former location of the market, which has been closed for renovations since 2021 after owners purchased the former Clarkston News building and adjacent parking lot.

In addition to this new steakhouse, Rudy’s will see the opening of a new Mediterranean-style restaurant in the following years as well as a basement wine cellar “where guests can taste and pick out a wine to accompany their meal at either restaurant.”

Between the date of the announcement on Aug. 16, 2023, through the opening of Rudy’s Prime Steakhouse, owners of Rudy’s will be listening to the community and using their input to help shape the brand’s culinary future.

“Rudy’s has been a community staple for almost a full century in Clarkston, and the care and attention they’re putting into the redevelopment of these historic buildings is a testament to their commitment to honoring our village’s heritage,” Eric Haven, the mayor of the Village of Clarkston, said in a press release.

“I’m incredibly excited about the future of downtown Clarkston with these restaurants on the horizon.”

Rudy’s Market has been a fan-favorite since it opened on the corner of Washington and Main St. in Clarkston in 1933 and continued to be a beloved destination when it relocated to its current home on Main Street in 1954.

In addition to its future options, Rudy’s operates a full suite of corporate dining options as well as cafes that offer “fresh and exciting food, including vegetarian, vegan, Keto-friendly, and Gluten-free dishes.
