“We love to play around with tarot and magic themes at Bad Luck,” says Yani Moraitis Frye, managing partner and bartender at Detroit’s Bad Luck Bar. “Urban myths are no exception.” His cocktail, the Alchemist, combines Pop Rocks and soda water for an explosive taste. “The Alchemist is the perfect amount of citrus and fruity sweetness, with a backbone of alcohol to create a really fun and balanced drink.”

Ingredients

  • 2 oz. vodka
  • 2 oz. cold black tea
  • 1 oz. soda water
  • ¾ oz. strawberry shrub
  • 1 tsp. strawberry-flavored Pop Rocks for garnish (optional)

STRAWBERRY SHRUB

  • ¼ cup white sugar
  • ¼ cup blended strawberries
  • ²/3 cup vinegar

Directions

Blend strawberry shrub ingredients, pour into a container, and store syrup in refrigerator for up to 30 days. Brew any fruity, floral, or flavored black tea and store in refrigerator. Once the tea is cold, shake all ingredients, except soda water, and strain into a tall glass. Then, add soda and top with ice. Sprinkle Pop Rocks on top, as a garnish — and eat some in between sips for some added excitement.
