Smith & Co. Restaurant

Cass Corridor newcomer Smith & Co. —  which opened in September 2019 in the century-old Smith Welding Supply & Equipment Co. — has already become a favorite of lager lovers. Credit for its Midcentury modern interior, though, goes to architecture firm VolumeOne Design Studio’s makeover of the former welding supply store into a modern-yet-worn-in space.

The 160-seat restaurant stays true to the building’s industrial roots by featuring exposed metal pipes, brick walls, and the original Smith & Co. sign. It’s also furnished with the kind of comfortable leather armchairs and unfussy wooden tables that make guests feel like they can order another drink and stay awhile.
