Detroit Restaurant Week kicks off next Monday (Nov. 2). The week-long event features a diverse roster of some of metro Detroit’s best restaurants offering $36, $56, and $76 prix fixe menus, making it the perfect time to try a new restaurant or visit one of your favorites for an excellent deal. Plus, $1 from every Detroit Restaurant Week meal will benefit local nonprofit groups, including the Rugiero Promise Foundation, Pewabic Pottery, and COTS.

The editorial staff at Hour Detroit, like many of our readers, are looking forward to the many incredible dining options next week. Here are the establishments they are looking forward to visiting during Detroit Restaurant Week.

Kate Walsh — Editor-In-Chief

Since I started this job five years ago, my dining bucket list has grown from one that could fit on an index card to one that rivals Santa’s naughty-and-nice list. That’s my way of explaining why I haven’t been to Olin Bar & Kitchen yet. But it’s been on my mind since reading our former food critic’s review, where she described the restaurant as a brasserie whose Mediterranean-influenced menu “makes you feel like you’re in a tapas bar in Barcelona.”

I’m especially glad Restaurant Week takes place in the fall, when I can sample autumnal dishes from Olin’s eclectic menu, which showcases fresh, seasonal, locally sourced ingredients. Olin’s Seasonal Three-Course Experience is $56 a person and includes many appealing menu items, including vegetarian and gluten-free options. For the second course, I am torn between the fried chicken with sour cream biscuits and braised black Tuscan kale with bacon and the short rib frites with black garlic glaze, crispy potatoes, and red chimichurri. Seasonal first course and third course options that caught my eye are the autumn salad, risotto with roasted maitake mushrooms, and apple tart.

Similar to our Editor-In-Chief, my dining bucket list has grown exponentially, and I’ve only been with Hour Detroit since last September. Marrow in the Market has been on my list, but it moved closer to the top after I read Assistant Editor Will Reaume’s recent review of the Eastern Market restaurant. They’re offering two menus during Detroit Restaurant Week: a three-course experience for $56 and a four-course experience for $76. Both options feature a main course of their Duck Sugo Bianco Pasta, which just sounds heavenly.

I’m also looking forward to exploring their cocktail menu, specifically the reposado tequila-based Rhythm Of The Night, if only to see if it makes me feel more like Corona’s ’90s dance hit or DeBarge’s ’80s pop smash.

M Cantina is an exquisite Mexican restaurant in Dearborn that also happened break the Guinness World Record for largest agave spirit selection last year. Their three-course meal offered during restaurant week is calling my name: I may have to go with the filet mingon for the second course, which comes with bell peppers, melted cheese, chipotle sauce, and crispy onions.

Will Reaume — Assistant Editor

I’m looking forward to checking out the $76 three course tasting experience at Hiroki-San. I’ve only been to the Book Tower sushi spot once, and really enjoyed it, but this is the perfect excuse to make my way back. Each course comes with three options to choose from, plus a cocktail offering for an additional cost.

My mind isn’t totally made up yet, but I’m thinking of starting with the Mugen cabbage salad to start, followed by the ton-tori noodle dish. For dessert, the sticky toffee pineapple pudding seems to be calling my name. The Midnight Moon gin-based cocktail sounds like the ideal pairing to the build your own adventure-style menu.

As expected, Detroit Restaurant Week offers so many great choices, but I’m most excited to eat at LeSuprême! The restaurant, located in the Book Towner, has two dining options on the Detroit Restaurant Week app: a French three-course dinner for $76 and a Parisian three-course lunch for $36.

I’m aiming for the full Paris cafe experience — sitting by the window in the beautiful bistro, people-watching without a care in the world, and savoring every bite of the delicious food.

Though I’m not sure if I’m brave enough to try escargot, I’m looking forward to a warm lobster bisque, a juicy steak, and a scoop of sorbet to top off the meal. And with a ham and cheese baguette available, I might have to come back for lunch!
